DP World to harness solar power


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)DP World has announced plans to launch the largest distributed rooftop grid connected project in the region to support the Smart Dubai initiative by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The global marine terminal operator will launch a major renewable energy project with the installation of photovoltaic solar panels to generate electricity allowing it to reduce its carbon footprint while exporting surplus energy to the national grid.

The project launched in cooperation with Economic Zones World a DP World subsidiary involves rooftop solar panel mountings on its Jebel Ali free zone buildings and parking sheds and several of its cruise terminal buildings in Port Rashid.

The announcement marks the start of the global "Go Green" campaign a maritime industry initiative involving five of the world's largest port operators - DP World Hutchison Port Holdings Limited or HPH APM Terminals PSA International and the Shanghai International Port Group or SIPG who have come together to raise environmental awareness to make a sustainable difference in the communities in which they operate.
