Netanyahu Announces Harsh Penalties against Stone Throwers
(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Wednesday announced a harsh penalties for stone throwers.
The decision follows clashes between Palestinians and security forces in and around Jerusalem's flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque compound for the third consecutive day.
Speaking at an emergency meeting with his ministers and security officials, Netanyahu said, "It has been decided to toughen the measures in many areas; a modification of the rules of engagement will be examined as well as the establishment of a minimum penalty for those who throw stones." He added that there would be "significant fines" for minors who commit such offences, as well as for their parents.
Palestinians and Israeli security forces clashed in Jerusalem's flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque compound and the surrounding Old City despite international calls for calm.
