(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said Tuesday that he appreciated and backed Jordan's intensive efforts to protect Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.
The Egyptian leader spoke during a telephone call with His Majesty King Abdullah II to discuss the latest Israeli raids on the Al Aqsa Mosque compound and their repercussions. Jordan is the custodian of the holy sites in Jerusalem.
The two leaders agreed to coordinate closely in their efforts to fend off the Israeli assaults and violations.
In a joint press conference with British Prime Minister David Cameron in Amman Monday, King Abdullah said Jordanian-Israeli relations will be affected if the ongoing provocations at Al Aqsa mosque continue.
Israeli police and extremist Jews and settlers repeatedly stormed the mosque compound in provocations that sparked confrontations with Palestinians that continued for the third day in a row.
