India- Power tariff to go down further in Delhi: CM

(MENAFN- KNN India) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that the electricity tariff in the capital city will go down further and the benefits will be passed on to consumers.

"Delhi uses around 5000 to 6000 MW of electricity. Half of this, we get in 5.50 rupee per unit from outside Delhi. We found out that there are companies in Delhi who are ready to provide electricity at 2.50 rupees per unit. But unfortunately, the previous governments have signed a 30-year long deal with these companies. And now, we have to buy electricity from them," he said.

While inaugurating the conference 'Ease of Doing Business: Unfinished Agenda' organised by ASSOCHAM, Kejriwal said that there should be a fundamental change in the manner of business carried out in this country. People also want government functioning to be changed in country, he said.

He informed that a meeting has been called on September 21 of all expert committee members of ASSOCHAM to discuss the work plan for the betterment of the state.

The chief minister also said that there is need to strengthen the department of prevention of food adulteration.

"We should establish a world class food testing laboratory here in India and if they find something wrong, we will send that person behind the bars. So, no license shall be required...," he said.

On tourism, Kejriwal said that the sector can become the hub in both the national and international front.

He also highlighted that the Delhi government is expending the 'Mandis' and warehouses are also being established through the public private partnership (PPP) model. We are bringing out the warehouse bill to regularise existing warehouse in Delhi, he added.
