Qatar- Science and technology learning programme for students launched

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMU-Q) and Maersk Oil Qatar have launched a new programme called Dhia: Engineering Leaders, to enhance learning in science and technology among Qatari school students in support of advancing a knowledge-based society.
The partnership builds on years of successful collaboration between TAMU-Q and Maersk Oil Qatar while consolidating joint educational activities under a new identity - Dhia. The Dhia portfolio is based on strategic educational enrichment in science, technology, engineering and mathematics - known as STEM disciplines - and will aim to help young Qataris prepare for university studies in those areas.
"Outreach to Qatari students and their teachers is at the centre of our efforts to engage the community in support of Qatar's national vision," Dr Mark Weichold, dean and CEO of TAMU-Q, said, adding: "Maersk Oil Qatar is visionary in its efforts to develop Qatari talent, and our renewed partnership reflects our shared priority for inspiring academic excellence among tomorrow's generation of engineering
leaders."
Over the next two years, Dhia initiatives will engage hundreds of Qatari students in grades 5€12 and their teachers in an array of academic programmes to help students find pathways for academic success, particularly in engineering and science. The partnership also includes sponsorship of the Engineering Leaders Conference on Engineering Education as well as Engineering Education Letters, a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation via QScience.com.
Dhia aims to increase engagement and support the skills and progress of students in STEM subjects from primary to high school, putting them on an early pathway to success and encouraging them to pursue university studies and then careers in STEM fields.
