Qatar Development Fund and UNICEF Sign South Sudan MoU

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Qatar Development Fund and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) signed Monday a Memorandum of Understanding at the headquarters of the Qatari Ministry of Interior.

The agreement serves as a basis for the implementation of a child care and maternal health project for children and women affected by the conflict in South Sudan and was signed by Director General of the Qatar Development Fund Khalifa Jassim Al-Kuwari and UNICEF Gulf Area Office Representative Dr. Ibrahim El-Ziq.

On this occasion, Mr. Al-Kuwari said: "The State of Qatar is committed to relief southern Sudan given the difficult humanitarian and health conditions in that country which resulted in the displacement of population and disruption of livelihoods for a large number of population.

He then noted that signing such agreements was "part of the State of Qatar's pledges during its participation in the high-level international humanitarian conference on announcement of pledges to southern Sudan," held in the Norwegian capital Oslo in May 2014.

Qatar Development Fund (QDF( is a Qatari public organization established and organized pursuant to Law Number 19 of 2002 as amended and established under the laws of the State of Qatar.

QDF was envisioned and articulated as an independent body to coordinate and implement foreign assistance on behalf of the State of Qatar.
