Canada stocks lower at close of trade S&P/TSX Composite down 0.80%


(MENAFN- FxPro) Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Mining, Materials and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.80%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Centerra Gold Inc (TO:CG), which rose 10.30% or 0.65 points to trade at 6.96 at the close. Meanwhile, Trinidad Drilling Ltd . (TO:TDG) added 10.20% or 0.25 points to end at 2.70 and IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) was up 6.70% or 0.13 points to 2.07 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb), which fell 10.75% or 0.20 points to trade at 1.66 at the close. Major Drilling Group International (TO:MDI) declined 8.91% or 0.41 points to end at 4.19 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) was down 8.13% or 0.63 points to 7.12.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 829 to 496 and 191 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.59% to 25.57.

Gold for December delivery was up 0.44% or 4.90 to $1108.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.23% or 0.55 to hit $44.08 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 3.29% or 1.61 to trade at $47.42 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.03% to 0.7543, while CAD/EUR rose 0.20% to 0.6664.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.01% at 95.39.
