China's power consumption back to safe zone

(MENAFN) Amidst the slump China's economy is facing, its electricity consumption returned to positive territory in August, giving hope for the agonizing economy after all.

Power consumption increased 1.9 percent year on year to 512.4 billion kilowatt per hour (kwh), as opposed to 1.3-percent drop in July, according to recent released data.

As far as the first eight months are concerned, the total power use edged up 1 percent year on year to 3.68 trillion kwh, however, July's decline is blamed on relatively cool weather and frequent rainfall.

In August, power use in major industries went up 2.3 percent while secondary industries ascended 0.7 percent, while usage by tertiary industry surged 7.5 percent, according to the National Energy Administration.
