(MENAFN- Gulf Times) HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani has underlined the importance of stimulating and enhancing the private sector in Qatar, which is "imperative to the economic, human, social and environmental development of the country".
He made the observation while addressing participants of Qatar Leadership Centre's (QLC) Rising Leaders Programme at QLC's Qatar Policy Seminar this week.
The Minister spoke on a range of issues at the seminar, including a knowledge-based economy. He emphasised the value of building knowledge and outlined how Qatar was working towards a knowledge-based economy as an integral part of further creating long-term economic prosperity.
He discussed Qatar National Vision 2030, with special emphasis on the economic development of the State and the range of corresponding policies. He also touched upon the role of the ministry in achieving the national vision.
Sheikh Ahmed highlighted that the progress of Qatar's economy and the achievements that Qatar has made over the last few years are apparent in the policies pursued by the State, and aligned with local and external developments.
He also explained the role of the ministry in consumer protection, market regulation and the preservation of competition, while reviewing the most important challenges the ministry is aiming to overcome.
At the end of the seminar, the Minister responded to queries from the Rising Leaders participants related to the topics highlighted by him.
Sheikh Dr Abdullah bin Ali al-Thani, managing director of QLC and member of the board of directors, said: "We aspire to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030 by preparing our people to assume leadership positions within Qatar. The Qatar Policy Seminar is part of our tailored approach to learning € a combination of theory and practice in an interactive setting.
