Jordan- RSS second workshop on solar energy kicks off

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The Royal Scientific Society (RSS), Sunday held its second (FOSTER in MED) training program on renewable energies and solar technologies.

During the five-day workshop, engineers, installers and university students will receive training on the proper adoption of innovative solar photovoltaic technologies .

Participants to the program included representatives from the Aqaba Thermal Power Station, Tafila Technical University, Jordan Engineers Association, the University of Jordan / Aqaba branch, Balqa Applied University, and Irbid Electricity Company.

The FOSTER in MED project, which is financed by the European Union with 4.05 million euros through the ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Program, aims at promoting the adoption of innovative solar photovoltaic technologies in MENA region. In addition to Jordan, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Tunisia, and Lebanon are involved in FOSTER program.

Director of the National Energy Research Center (NERC), Walid Shahin, said that FOSTER training workshops aim to raise awareness in utilizing solar energy in buildings through photovoltaic and to support the implementation of Jordan's 2020 national strategy.

The meeting will discuss a number of solar-related issues including renewable energy resources, energy efficiency in building, operation of solar cells and their performance, types and materials of photovoltaic cells, manufacturing of photovoltaic modules and their components, NERC official added.

The University of Jordan / Aqaba branch has been chosen to implement the FOSTER pilot project, through using Building Integrated Photovoltaic system (BIPV).

RSS has been at the forefront of Jordanian renewable energy development and research, from wind powered water pumps and aerial generators to solar water heater panels, and photovoltaic.
