Dubai to award USD3.3b solar energy park contract

(MENAFN) Reports showed that Dubai's government-owned utility is set to award a contract to build the third phrase of a USD3.3 billion solar energy park in the January-March period of 2016.

The project, which will produce 800 megawatts of electricity from solar power, is likely to be awarded to more than one company, managing director and CEO of Dubai Electricity & Water Authority said.

Recently, DEWA doubled the capacity of phase two of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park to 200MW, and it increased the share of renewable energy targets in Dubai's energy mix to 7 percent by 2020.

However, DEWA, which manages and operates the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, is still deciding whether to build the plant all at once or at different times to take advantage of lower costs.
