Kuwait- Surveillance Cams In New Schools Get Ministry Nod

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Bader Al-Essa has confirmed signing a new contract for the installation of surveillance cameras in some schools in line with a Ministers Council decree on the installation of such cameras in governmental and commercial institutions to prevent violent acts and thefts, reports Al-Rai daily.

In a press statement, Al-Essa disclosed the decision includes new schools that started operating this academic year 2015/2016 as well as those slated for hand over to the ministry soon.

Meanwhile, the minister said the contracts for guards in educational districts, except Jahra, are still valid; indicating he asked the State Audit Bureau to immediately approve the contract for Jahra. He also affirmed coordination with the Ministry of Interior to deploy patrol vehicles in intermediate and secondary schools, asserting the administrations of educational districts will coordinate with the police stations in their areas to safeguard the schools. In other news, the Private Education Department in the Education Ministry is waiting for private schools to rectify their status after the evaluation by foreign companies, reports Al-Anba daily quoting Director of the department Abdullah Al- Basari.

Indicating the evaluation results will be announced in November, Al-Basari clarified the ministry will not approve the appointment of Arabic or English teachers in private schools unless they hold at least a bachelor's degree. Al-Basari added the decision banning transfer of grade 10 students from public to private schools remains in effect, while such transfer is allowed for other grade levels.

Meanwhile, Al-Basari confirmed coordination between the ministry and its counterpart in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia regarding the accreditation of certificates issued by the Cultural Office of the Kingdom's embassy in Kuwait. He pointed out the holders of these certificates have been given a go signal to complete their studies or submit these documents for work until the ministry receives a response on the validity of the certificates. He admitted some certificates have been found to be forged and the department has informed the concerned ministry officials about the anomaly for proper action. He went on to say the ministry will soon sign an agreement with the Public Authority for Handicapped Affairs (PAHA) on the recruitment of teachers for students with disabilities, in coordination with teams from the authority and the Private Education Sector.
