Israeli police storms Aqsa Mosque, injures dozens


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Israeli police stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque and injured a number of guards and worshipers amid operation to secure settlers incursion.
"Israeli occupation police attacked worshipers and guards at the mosque and forced us to evacuate to outside halls," Al-Aqsa Mosque Director Omar Al-Kaswani said, adding a number were injured and a number were arrested.
Al-Kaswani told KUNA the confrontations occurred when worshipers, students, and guards stood up against Israeli police who used teargas and rubber bullets. The initial clashes caused the injury of one child.
Sound and gas bombs also caused fire in the front garden of Al-Aqsa Mosque, but firefighters were able to put it out.
Among the 10 settlers who entered Al-Maqarba gate of Al-Aqsa Mosque was Israeli Minister of Agriculture Uri Ariel, Al-Kaswani added.
Israel is working toward dividing time and entrance to the mosque between Muslims and Jews.
