Emirates Foundation and MoHESR to promote youth empowerment programmes

ABU DHABI 13th September 2015 (WAM) -- The Emirates Foundation and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research MoHESR have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop and promote youth-focused projects in the areas of venture philanthropy social entrepreneurship and sustainability.

The MoU which will see the two parties work closely to exchange knowledge and expertise related to youth development was signed today by Maytha Al-Habsi Emirates Foundation's Chief Programmes Officer and Youmna Badowah the Ministry's Acting Assistant Under-Secretary of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Commenting on the announcement Al-Habsi said "Our partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education is vital to the success of our strategy of promoting venture philanthropy as a self-sustaining model for social investment. Through this partnership we hope to gain access to the broad base of our higher education population and engage them in a multitude of initiatives designed to make a strong positive impact on the UAE youth."

The Emirates Foundation seeks to implement long-term and sustainable social programmes aimed at youth empowerment and addressing the challenges young people face in the UAE. As part of the MoU both parties will determine areas of cooperation which are relevant to the Foundation's programmes such as Takatof Sanid Think Science Esref Sah (Financial Literacy) and others.

The Ministry will encourage all higher education institutions under its umbrella to cooperate and interact with the Emirates Foundation to facilitate and implement the Foundation's programmes and activities.

Speaking on the occasion of signing the MoU Youmna Badowah said "This MoU and its initiatives came into existence following the Ministry's agreement with the Khalifa Empowerment Programme for students - UAE (AQDAR). This agreement with Emirates Foundation aims to promote and support the skills of students and provide them with a platform to participate in youth-focused programmes organised by the Emirates Foundation" she said.
