14 new malls in Al Meera's Qatar expansion strategy

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Al Meera Consumer Goods Company is pursuing an expansion strategy to construct some 14 new shopping malls across Qatar even as the retail major opened its 40th state-of-the-art outlet in Al Wajba recently.

The company's ambitious plan is to open 56 outlets in different areas of Qatar.

Al Meera deputy CEO Dr Mohamed Nasser al-Qahtani said, "We are committed to provide a unique and all-inclusive service to all segments of the Qatari community and we look forward to the opening of our upcoming branches, which is our way of supporting Qatar National Vision 2030 in its plan to develop all areas of the nation."

Al-Qahtani said the opening of the Al Wajba branch reflects Al Meera's thrust to become "Your favourite neighbourhood retailer" and expand into newly-developed areas, as well as communities that have witnessed a significant increase in population.

He explained that the new branch would be serving the Al Wajba area, in addition to the New Rayyan, Muaither, Rawdat Abal Heeran, and Al Sailiya until the completion of the new branches in those areas.

During the opening ceremony, al-Qahtani was joined by operations director Cobus Lombard, administration affairs manager Saeed M al-Nabet, safety and security manager Khalid al-Jassim, besides other Al Meera officials.

The new branch boasts of "world-class" shelves that offer "the best products displays," in addition to high-tech lighting, storage techniques, and technologies that adhere to international standards.

The 4,300sqm Al Wajba branch constitutes 2,022sqm of supermarket area. The store offers shoppers a wide variety of food and non-food related items, as well as fresh products.

It includes a butchery, fishery, delicatessen, fruits and vegetables area, and bakery to cater to consumers' daily needs at competitive prices. In addition to a huge parking space, the branch will feature seven shops that are set to open soon to provide customers with a variety of services.

Al-Qahtani also expressed his gratitude for the support provided by the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP), Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Public Works Authority (Ashghal), and Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa).

He said Al Meera would launch two more branches this year in Al Thumama and Rawdat Ekdeem, which will open its doors weeks apart after obtaining the necessary approvals and licenses from authorities.

"This comes after the opening of seven stores this year in Muaither, Al Azizia, Muraikh, the Gulf Mall, Thakhira, Jeryan Njeima, and Al Wakrah 2, al-Qahtani said.

He added: "Within its framework to open 56 outlets in all areas of Qatar, Al Meera has begun construction works on several other branches as part of its expansion strategy to construct 14 new shopping malls in Sailiya North (Miarad), Bu Sidra, Al Wakrah 3, Umm Salal Ali, Leabaib 1, Leabaib 2, Rawdat Aba El Heran, Azghawa, Al Khor, Um Qarn, Rawdat Al Hamama, Jeryan Jenaihat, Al Sailiya, and Ain Khaled.

Al-Qahtani said Al Meera signed a memorandum of understanding with Lusail Real Estate Development for the operation and management of two shopping centres in Fox Hills and North Villas District.

"Al Meera also plans to establish two additional branches, characterised by a unique design in Al Jamiliyah and Al Shamal, and will continue opening other new branches whenever the opportunity presents itself," al-Qahtani said.

He said Al Meera is in "constant co-ordination" with the MMUP "in order to act upon their suggestions while considering our requests in terms of new locations" in Rawdat Al Hamam North, Al Shehaniya North, Madkhal Al Khuraib, Rawdat Rashed, Umm Al Umd, and Al Khuraitiyat, among others.
