Kuwait- Review Set To Plug Security Loopholes

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Following the decision to transfer the Assistant Undersecretary for Border Security Sector Major General Anwar Al-Yasin to the General Diwan of Interior Ministry pending his dismissal on account of security lapses and infiltrations recorded in the border security in his tenure, reliable security sources disclosed that plans are underway to review all 'files of transfer' prepared and signed by Al-Yasin between 2011 and 2014 when some civilian and military personnel were reassigned to Al-Abdally Border and its affiliated departments as a precautionary measure.

Sources said the Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammed Al- Khalid will hold a high-level meeting with the top security officials to review the entire security system based on the recent developments, and decisions will be taken to rotate some officials without warning- including all assistant undersecretaries, except the assistant undersecretary for State Security Affairs Major General Essam Al-Naham.

They expected a decision will be made to refer Al-Yasin to Public Prosecution if more details are collected on the reality and nature of his relations with the media practitioner, lawyer and owner of the Twitter account in the 'Political Matches' case, alongside other suspects from outside the ministry. They noted the minister has rejected all attempts to mediate in Al- Yasin's case, because the procedures adopted will corner all elements suspected to be part of the security breach that happened in the country last month. They expected a major general serving in the Border Security Department will replace Al-Yasin as 'acting' assistant undersecretary for six months during which all security lapses will be amended.

However, a top official (major general) from the State Security Department will take up the post in due course. On the other hand, several MPs have expressed worry over the recent media report about two ambiguous ships docking in Shuwaikh Port for a long time. MP Abdullah Al-Turaiji wondered if the two ships have any link with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. In a statement, he said infiltrations have become common in the country lately because Iran and its supporters target Kuwait's security and stability. He asked for the perpetrators to be handled with iron hand. For his part, MP Fares Al-Otaibi considered the two ships 'a puzzle to be solved' for the reason that the expansionist policy of Iran is now in the open. He stressed the need to curb the security breach to safeguard the country.

A 28-year old Kuwaiti fugitive who is involved in the 'Abdally cell' case was arrested in Khairan area. According to security sources, Ahmadi securitymen were patrolling Khairan area when they stopped a vehicle and checked the details of the motorist to discover he is a Kuwaiti citizen who is wanted by the State Security Department for his involvement in the 'Abdally cell' case. He was arrested and referred to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action against him. - By Meshal Al- Sanousi, Al-Seyassah Staff.
