S. Korea's steel imports surge 14 percent in August

(MENAFN) South Korea's imports of steel soared 14 percent in August as opposed to last year on the back of strong demand from the construction sector.

The country witnessed the highest growth rate in steel industry, importing 1.99 million tons of steel in August, jumping 13.8 percent from the previous year.

As a result for the government's decision to impose anti-dumping duties on Chinese products in late July, H-steel imports plunged 25.1 percent on-year.

Imports from China accounted for 65 percent of the total with 1.29 million tons coming from the country. Japan took up 27.9 percent with 554,000 tons imported.
