Doha: An injury time goal helped Al Kharaitiyat to stun Qatar Sports Club 2-1 in Round 1 of the Qatar Stars League (QSL) while Al Arabi picked up full points in a 1-0 win over Al Wakrah.

Yesterday at the Al Khor Stadium a brace from Mohamed Yasser Mohamady gave coach Amar Osim full points.

All the three goals of the match came in the second half.

Al Kharaitiyat struck through Mohamady in the 57th minute.

The lead was short lived as Qatar SC coached by Radhi Shenaishil equalised a minute later.

Ali Awad Bujaloof gave Qatar the equaliser.

Thereafter both teams tried to break open the rival defense but without any success untill Mohamady got his name on the scoresheet the second time in the match in the fifth minute of injury time.

At Arabi Stadium the Reds managed to bag all three points with a fortuitous own goal by Wakrah defender Ali Rehema as they held on for the final whistle.

Wakrah dominated the game from start to finish.

The only goal of the game came from an Arabi counter attack when new signing Yousef Ahmed received coach Paulinho’s clearance and showed his pace with a sprint down the left. Wakra captain Ali Rehema managed to just keep up with the forward but his last ditch tackle saw the ball fly into his own goal in the 43rd minute.

Al Wakrah coach José Mauricio cut a frustrated figure on the side lines as it was clear to all that the visitors were playing the better football until the defensive error.

After the restart Al Wakrah continued where they had left off having a number of chances.

It looked as though things were turning in the Blue Wave’s favour when Iranian winger Ashkan Dejagah received a straight red card; however the replay showed that he made minimal contact with his opponent. After this dubious decision Arabi’s chances were few and far between but the tireless Paulinho had a chance late in the 89th minute with his solo effort on goal but failed

Wakrah should not be too hard on themselves despite the loss they already look a better team under their new Uruguayan coach than they did last season.
