Oman- Al Roya Youth Initiative Awards launched registration on till Oct 31

The third edition of the Al Roya Youth Initiative Awards was launched at Grand Hyatt Muscat on Tuesday.

The awards recognise innovation by talented Omani youth. Registrations for the awards are open till October 31.

The launch ceremony was held under the patronage of H E Sheikh Rashad Ahmed al Hinai Undersecretary in the Ministry of Sports Affairs and in the presence of Sheikh Hussam al Nabhani vice president for corporate and external affairs Oxy Oman and Hatim al Taie general manager and editor-in-chief of Al Roya

Taie said 'The Al Roya Youth Initiative Awards in their third edition are the crowning of success of the previous two editions. The initial process was the hardest. Our teams had to go down to the field from one governorate to another and get to the youth where they were delivering expert awareness and inspirational talks. Those great efforts however didn't go waste. Applicant numbers were unprecedented.'

Taie added 'The focus of the awards this year is on scientific innovation with more attention geared towards renewable energy. A number of workshops were organised for young inventors in cooperation with the Scientific Discovery Centre in Ibra and the Self Learning Centre of Sultan Qaboos University.'

Before the launch the organisation held a workshop which was attended by 400 students from across the country.

Mohamed Ridha al Lawati HR manager Al Roya Newspaper said 'There are eight award categories this year and three young inventors in each category will be awarded cash prizes. The first placed winner in each category will receive RO1500 the second will get RO1000 while the third will get RO500.'

Some of the categories are the Al Roya Youth Initiative Award in Scientific Innovation (which includes electronics renewable energy and robotics) Literature and Culture (play scripts) Arts (given to three best short films) Media (for the best socially enriching media or electronic initiative) and Volunteering (given for best three voluntary initiatives or projects that have directly helped the community or raised awareness among the community members excluding charity works).

For the scientific innovations category for robotics applicants can be as young as six years. For all others categories nationals between the age of 18 and 40 can register. Contestants can register on www.alroya.om.
