China to spend USD22b on new railways


(MENAFN) In a whopping overall investment of USD22 billion, Chinese economic regulators agreed upon the construction of three new railroads in the in central and southwestern region.

Basically, one will be a high-speed railway, and the other two are going to be traditional rail and help improve transportation in Yunnan, a southwest border area.

In more detail, the high-speed project will take the biggest slice of the investment at a total of USD18.4 billion, with a speed topping 350 km, upon completion; it's expected to carry 60 million passengers per year.

The majority of the investment will be contributed by China's government and China Railway Corporation; furthermore, the three railroads are expected to be completed in the next 4 to 6 years.
