Berlin meet hails Qatari initiative


(MENAFN- The Peninsula)Berlin: Qatar chaired a round table meeting in the German capital on Wednesday to discuss an initiative to establish a fund to finance education and rehabilitation programmes for Syrian refugees children in asylum countries. The initiative was announced by Qatar’s Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah in Kuwait at the Donor Conference last March.

The Qatari initiative was presented during the meeting by Head of the Foreign Ministry’s Department of International Development Dr Ahmed Al Muraikhi. Qatar’s Ambassador to Germany Abdul Rahman bin Mohamed Al Khulaifi hosted the round table meeting with the participation of delegations from Kuwait the UAE the United States the United Kingdom Germany Belgium and France as well as the United Nations Unicef UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and Reach Out To Asia (ROTA).

Qatar’s delegation explained during the meeting the objectives of the initiative stressing its importance to avoid the loss of an entire generation. The participating delegations praised the efforts exerted by Qatar to provide relief and assistance to the Syrian people. They also stressed their support for the Qatari initiative. QNA
