Qatar- Fath Al Kheir 2 gears up for India voyage


(MENAFN- The Peninsula)A Katara Beach Management official explains the functions of the main parts of the dhow.

DOHA: The Organising Comm-ittee of the Fath Al Kheir 2 said it is well prepared for the Qatari dhow’s historic long voyage to India next month.

The inaugural Fath Al Kheir took place two years ago taking the traditional dhow on a voyage to various GCC states. This time however the journey would be longer in terms of duration and distance thus it entails double preparation says Katara Beach Management.

While Fath Al Kheir 1 lasted for 27 days the forthcoming trip would continue for 48 days and for the first time take it to the shores of India.

In a recent meeting with the participants the Beach Management stressed the importance of having patience and following the journey’s guidelines and orders of the captain to maintain safety aboard during the long journey.

The organizing committee confirmed its readiness to counter any accidents or harsh climate conditions. It also emphasised the fact the participants are ambassadors of Qatar and and they have to follow the footsteps of their ancestors to have endurance patience and bravery in dealing with hardships.

During the meeting the beach management used a model of the dhow to explain the functions of the main parts and what to do in case any part goes off.

The participants expressed their keenness and readiness to take part in this journey and their willingness to reflect the beautiful image that Qatar. The organisers said more meetings will be held to orient participants on navigation rescue and interpreting and decoding maps among others.

The dhow will depart from Katara Beach on October 1; reach Sur Oman on October 15; arrive in India on October 25 and return back to Muscat on November 15. It will conclude its journey in Doha on November 17 in time for the launch of the fifth edition of Katara Traditional Dhow Festival.
