EU accepts General Electric's USD13.4b deal

(MENAFN) US giant General Electric's (GE) USD13.4 billion deal to buy the energy business of French firm Alstom has been finally approved by the EU, based on released data.

With sealing this deal, GE has succeeded where it fell short with the EU's 2001 dismissal of a takeover of fellow US giant Honeywell, which came as a shock to General Electric.

'Following an in-depth review, the Commission has approved the purchase of Alstom's energy businesses by GE subject to divestment of central parts of Alstom's heavy duty gas turbines business,' the European Commission said.
