S. Korea's Urges N. Korea to Open to International Community

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) South Korea's President Park Geun-hye has urged North Korea to stop its simultaneous pursuit of economic and nuclear development.

During a keynote speech at the 2015 Seoul Defense Dialogue, the South Korean president said the North is pursuing an unrealistic aim and it should instead open itself to the international community.

While noting that Seoul has consistently carried out the Korean Peninsula Trust-building Process, Park said that Pyongyang must hold dialogue with the South and the international community for denuclearization.

Park also called for confidence-building between the two sides' militaries and efforts for mutual arms control via dialogue, Korea's (KBS WORLD) website reported. Park said reunification of the Korean Peninsula would be the fundamental solution to resolve the North's nuclear weapons program and human rights issues.

She stressed that it would also end the cold war of the 20th century and link Northeast Asia with the Eurasian continent, thereby providing a groundbreaking growth engine for the prosperity of mankind.
