Turkey: Political parties urged to stay clear of PKK

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Turkey's Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu has urged all political parties in the country to "clearly"distance themselves from the terrorist PKK organization.

"All political parties in Turkey must without exception draw a clear line between themselves and the terrorist PKK group" Kilicdaroglu told a press briefing at his party headquarters in the capital Ankara on Wednesday.

His remarks followed Sunday evening's PKK bomb attack in southeastern Daglica town of Hakkari province that killed more than a dozen soldiers.

Kilicdaroglu described the recent situation in the country as a "[test that] all Turkish citizens are now going through."

He invited all citizens especially Turkish youth to act sensitively and refrain from provocations and acts that would in any way help the terrorist PKK.

"It [PKK] wants to divide the society but we will never get divided. We must condemn terrorism and protect all our values that make us who we are" he said.

Kilicdaroglu also said that the Turkish Parliament was the right platform to solve issues around a table where all parliamentarians gather.

Two nights of protests followed Sunday's attack in Hakkari that saw 16 soldiers martyred in the deadliest incident since the terrorist PKK renewed its armed campaign at the end of July.

Turkey has responded to PKK attacks by launching airstrikes on terrorist PKK bases in northern Iraq and the army has sent ground troops across the border.
