Terrorism in Turkey 39must be strongly condemned39


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Turkey has witnessed a number of brutal terrorist attacks which must be strongly condemned European Council President Donald Tusk said Wednesday.

Addressing a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the presidential palace in capital Ankara Tusk said: "Turkey has witnessed a number of brutal terrorist attacks. Terrorism wherever it takes place whomever it targets and whoever bears the responsibility for it must be strongly condemned."

He underlined that the European Union wanted to cooperate closely with Turkey against terrorism and it remained committed to fight against PKK's presence in Europe.

He also touched upon the attack against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) headquarters and the Hurriyet newspaper in Turkey saying: "I hope that trust will again be restored and the rule of law will prevail."

The newspaper’s premises came under attack by a group of people throwingstones Sunday and Tuesday evening. The initial attack came after the newspaper was accused of posting amisleading tweet related to Erdogan’s comments on terrorism in Turkey and the general election.

"I have come to Ankara because I believe that Turkey can play a key role in bringing stability back to the region especially in Syria" he said.

Turkey has seen a surge in terrorist attacks since the PKK resumed its armed campaign at the end of July. In that period around 100 members of the security forces have been martyred in attacks focused on Turkey’s southeastern provinces.

On Sunday 16 soldiers were martyred in a roadside bomb attack in Hakkari province. Another 13 were martyred in an attack in Igdir province Tuesday.
