The ups and downs of Dubai's Elevation Burger

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) I'VE HAD A turbulent relationship with Elevation Burger. The first visit was a success, the second a disaster, and now here I find them rising in my estimations - an action the company's name encourages. This is a result of my latest call-in at the Jumeirah Beach Road branch. Not having visited the premises before, the ample parking is the first surprising feature found at this location.

Visit the Sheikh Zayed Road property and you've more chance of getting through to a useful DEWA helpline representative than finding a space. Actually the same could be said for many surrounding restaurants in the Jumeirah area. The dedicated bays I found at at Elevation Burger put me in a sufficiently good mood to enter a chain I vowed never to return to after a poor previous experience involving greasy cooking and a wrong order.

The diner is huge. This is the immediate impression you are greeted with as soon as you walk in. Set over two floors with a smallish counter in one corner of the first level means there are a large number of seats to fill. Heading down on a Saturday night, it wasn't teeming, but was suitably busy for 9pm on a school night. Our order was swiftly taken - two cheeseburgers with toppings ranging from jalapeños to special sauce, a portion of fancy fries and two chocolate malt shakes (one with banana, the other with raspberry). It was a simple meal, but ultimately delicious.

The burgers arrived well put together and well cooked. The aforementioned grease that accompanied my last dinner was nowhere to be found. In its place was a nicely grilled patty, fresh toppings and an excellent bun: not too supple, not too soft, no additional sweetness. The size of the sandwich was also very agreeable. Too often burgers around here can be too large. This was just about right, being around a quarter pound. One pointer would be to go for raw onions instead of caramelised, but I'm nitpicking. The fancy fries were equally tasty. This concoction is basically chips with melted cheese on top. The cheese, while not being the highest quality (think cinema nacho cheese) is satisfying on the well fried potatoes.

The shakes are perhaps the piece de resistance. Thicker than you can handle at first, once the ice cream melts, you're going to go through them like no one's business. The only criticism one could have is that they're gone too quickly.

The meal came to around Dhs130 and for that price I'd say it's definitely worth another punt.
