Qatar- Economic council meets


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, chairman of the Supreme Council for Economic and Investment Affairs, presiding over the council's fourth meeting in 2015 at the Emiri Diwan. HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani, who is the council's vice president, attended the meeting along with HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, the executive member of the council, and members of the council. Qatar's central bank is to grant licences to Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) banks to open branches in the state, the council said. Qatar already has a relatively large number of banks - around 18 - servicing a small population. Licences for new banks will be given according to criteria set out by the central bank, according to a statement.
