Egypt- 5 Red Sea ports closed due to dust storm

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Five ports were forced to temporarily close on Wednesday due to poor visibility caused by a dust storm.

A statement by the Red Sea Ports Authority announced that the ports that were closed included Safaga, Sokhna, Adabiya, Zaytiyat and Port Tawfiq.

Visibility fell below the 1500 meters mark early Wednesday, according to state news agency MENA.

Four ports were initially closed Wednesday morning before Safaga port in the Red Sea governorate was added to the list, according to the authority's spokesman, Abdelrahim Mostafa.

Mostafa told Daily News Egypt that the authority is in continuous contact with the Meteorological Authority and other authorities to monitor the sand storm.

He also said there is no expected time to reopen the ports, adding that updates will be announced regularly.
