Jordan- Ministries to provide access to information forms


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Prime Minister, Abdullah Ensour, on Tuesday instructed all ministries and public agencies to provide forms to obtain information according to the Access to Information Law.

The new form includes the applicant's personal data and the purposes of obtaining the information, and is subject to be either accepted or rejected within a period of 30 days from the day of submitting the application.

Under the law, if the request was denied, the reasons must be provided, and that in case no reply was given within the specified period, the request is considered refused.

In case an applicant does not obtain the information requested, he/she can submit a complaint with the Council of information by the Information Commissioner/ Director General of the National Library Department.

A World Bank study conducted last year on applications related to the access to information law in eight world countries, Jordan ranked first in terms of law enforcement.

The study found that Jordan was the country that responded most to access to information requests and had not withheld information from 95.6 percent of the applicants, the first among the eight countries surveyed, the USA, UK, Brazil, India, Mexico, South Africa and Thailand.
