Jordan- Senate President lectures at Zurich University

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Senate President, Abdul Rauf Rawabdeh, on Tuesday, said Jordan hosts about 1.3 million Syrian refugee despite economic difficulties, stressing that the international aid extended to Jordan so far to mitigate the effect of hosting Syrian refugees does not even cover 30 per cent of the actual cost of the crisis.

In a lecture he delivered on Tuesday at the University of Zurich in Switzerland on the tenth anniversary of Interfaith Dialogue, Rawabdeh pointed out to immigration waves that hit Jordan since 1948 and their impact on the kingdom.

He also highlighted the Syrian crisis impacts on all aspects of life in Jordan, saying that the Kingdom's stance towards the crisis remained constant as it believes that there is no military solution to the Syrian crisis and the only option left has always been the political and internal solution by Syrians themselves.

On the Palestinian issue, the senate president stressed that the continuation of Israeli practices would cause more tensions and create serious ramifications in the region.

During the lecture, Rawabdeh also outlined Jordan's efforts in various fields to realize political reform and development in different areas, noting initiatives Jordan launched to promote the role of youth, empower women, modernize education, realize social justice and improve human resources.
