Australia to take in 12,000 Syrian and Iraqi refugees


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said that his country will take in 12,000 additional refugees from Syria and Iraq to solve the current crisis.

He said Australia will accept 12,000 refugees from persecuted minorities fleeing the conflict in Syria and Iraq, and provide an extra $44 million in financial aid to refugee agencies.

The Government had previously committed to increase the existing refugee intake of 13,750 to 18,750 by 2018.
