Darfur Parties Committed to Doha Document, HE Deputy PM Says


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, who is also Chairman of the Follow up Mechanism for the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur affirmed that the restoration of calm and security in Darfur confirms Darfurians' adherence to Doha document and their conviction by peace.

During a press conference held today at Four Seasons Hotel at the end of the tenth meeting of the committee , Al Mahmoud said that the security threats in Darfur are limited to tribal conflicts that now is the big challenge that needs to address after the end of previous control of non-signatory movements to the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD).

He said that you cannot talk about peace and development without security and stability, citing that the progress report towards the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD), which was introduced by the Joint AU-UN Special Representative for Darfur, Head of UNAMID and Joint Chief Mediator Abiodun Oluremi Bashua before the meeting made remarkable progress and stability in Darfur. In regard to stabled situation in Darfur, Qatar has enabled to build five model villages in Darfur states and seeks to build 10 villages in various Darfur states , he added.

Al Mahmoud noted that the attacks that were targeted individuals and UNAMID soldiers in the past had been reduced, leading to stability in Darfur despite instability in Sudan's neighboring countries. The Qatari official added that Bashua delivered a speech on behalf of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in which he expressed support of the International Organization to DDPD and his appreciation for the efforts being made by the committee, wished it success.

In the same context , Al Mahmoud noted that the representative of the African Union was fair and precise towards firm and supportive stance of the Union to the DDPD as a founder and part of it .

IN this regard, representatives of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation(OIC) conveyed messages to the meeting, which was adopted in its agendas the executive summary of the minutes of the ninth meeting of the Follow up Mechanism for the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur on the latest developments in Darfur region.

Responding to a question from Qatar News Agency on whether they would offer more guarantees to parties that one to sign the document, HE the Deputy Prime Minister said they would if a request was made by those movements.
