Qatar- Preparations for winter c&ing season begin

DOHA: This year’s winter camping season in Qatar will begin on November 1 and the Ministry of Environment will start receiving applications from campers beginning September 15.

Registration will close on October 15 while the camping season will extend until March 31.

In this context the Ministry has urged citizens planning to put up winter camps to strictly abide by the government rules. A total of 58 people are currently in the Ministry blacklist for violating the rules and 20 of them have been referred to Public Prosecution.

Addressing a press conference yesterday Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs at the Ministry Engineer Ahmed Al Sada said the applicants can register at one of the Environment Protection Department’s units in Doha Umm Salal Al Rayyan and Al Shamal (from 8am to 12) or through the Ministry’s website. Registration is open to citizens aged 25 years and above.

Upon receiving the MoE’s approval via SMS the applicants are required to pay a camping insurance fee of QR10000 no later than November 30 he said.

Director of the Environment Protection Department Omar Salem Al Nuaimi said that the applicants can choose from 21 sites earmarked for camping. The Ministry of Environment is coordinating with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning Civil Defence and the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) to ensure the camping sites have the necessary facilities for campers such as waste containers and medical services he added.

Al Nuaimi stressed that licence holders are prohibited from renting out their camping spaces for any reason in which case a violation will be registered against them and their permits will be revoked. Camping Season’s General Coordinator said Saad Ibrahim Al Kaabi said that other major violations include the use of loudspeakers or disturbing other campers non-commitment to public morals and customs cutting trees or harming the environment excavation works or removal of stones and rocks using machinery for the purpose of settlement and using camp spaces for undesignated purposes.

The Ministry inspectors will be on the prowl to check campers’ adherence to rules and regulations. Those who are the Ministry blacklist will not be allowed to camp this year.

The Ministry has simplified the procedures to facilitate registration and has allowed campers to retrieve their insurance fees after the end of the season.
