(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) LONDON NATIVE DJ Neil T is the man behind the decks at "Women Crush Tuesdays" which takes place at People by Crystal Abu Dhabi. Now splitting his time between Dubai and the capital and with over 15 years experience we ask him a couple of questions about his trade and what life is like for a DJ in the UAE.
What does your usual UAE set consist of?
The venues I play mainly tend to be open format clubs, so I play across the board. The UAE is full of different nationalities and everyone comes from a different musical background. So as much as I try to play what's current, you'll also hear me drop something international.
Where is the best place to DJ and why?
I'm enjoying all of my gigs right now; being able to play different venues and musical themes is great for staying fresh. But right now, I would say the best place to DJ is at People by Crystal Abu Dhabi.
Did you ever consider going for a gimmicky DJ name?
When I first started DJ-ing, even before my first legit gig, I battled with a name. I didn't want to be something like 'DJ Vinyl Bandit' and regret it years down the line, so kept it simple and settled on DJ Neil T.
What is the secret behind creating a hit?
I think if you have an ear to catch a trend early, it's easy to jump on the wave and get in early with a popular 'sound'. But I think for longevity, keep it original, be as musical as possible and dare to be different.
What advice do you have for any aspiring DJs?
Practice as much as possible, you can never stop learning. Be as creative as possible, too many DJ's I hear now, let the music do the work for them and get lazy. Be open minded, take criticism positively and never settle at thinking you've made it!
