Salman jokes Shah Rukh, Aamir would let him win in singing 'battle'

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) SALMAN KHAN, WHOSE position in Bollywood's box office race is often compared with Shah Rukh Khan, says the actor would be in a "losing battle" against him as far as singing is concerned.

Salman's latest attempt at exercising his vocal chords for a song is for the title track of his forthcoming production Hero, with which he is launching two new faces - Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty - in the film industry.

He was in a jovial mood and cracked jokes at an event in Mumbai, where he was present along with Sooraj, Athiya, Hero director Nikhil Advani and singers Palak Muchhal and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

Salman quipped that all Khans will let him win as far as singing is concerned.

When mediapersons asked Rahat Fateh Ali Khan who amongst Shah Rukh and Salman is more musical, he said: "I just heard Salman's singing but have not heard Shah Rukh yet."

Salman immediately interrupted and said: "There is no chance! It's a losing battle. I have heard... Both Shah Rukh and Aamir will let me win. No doubt on that."

Everything he does makes news but Salman Khan says he does not take his Bollywood stardom seriously.

"I don't behave like a star and I don't live like a star. It is how people perceive me," Salman said.

"I am wearing a t-shirt worth Rs550, jeans which are 15 years old and shoes which are there since the past 20 years, that's it. What makes people treat me as a star is the image which is transferred to me through my on-screen characters."

Salman, 49, has spent over twenty-five years in the film industry and is nothing less than a phenomenon for his fans, but the actor believes that the success that is often attributed to him is actually the hard work of other people.

"Thousands of people have helped me build this image. After spending so many years in the industry, I now have the liberty to select scripts, but before that I had no say. People like Sooraj Barjatya, my dad (Salim Khan) and Deepak Bahry have made me.

"I worked with so many directors and writers and learned what I should choose and what not. So, this is not me but the scripts I selected. The people I chose to work with are responsible for building this monster."

The actor, who is often put on the spot for his personal life, does not let criticism affect him.

"I don't take criticism at all unless and until it comes from someone really close or someone who knows me well or if it comes from within me. People may criticise me but they will eventually realise they were wrong," he said. The Bajrangi Bhaijaan star has been a godfather to many Bollywood aspirants, be it Arjun Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha or music composer Himesh Reshamiya.

He is stepping into the role of a mentor again by launching star kids Athiya Shetty and Sooraj Pancholi in his upcoming production Hero. IANS/PTI
