Berkeley Energy hails results of testwork at Salamanca project

(MENAFN- ProactiveInvestors)Berkeley Energy (LON:BKY) has welcomed "impressive" metallurgical testing which shows the Zona 7 deposit ore at the Salamanca uranium project is amenable to low cost heap leaching at the proposed processing facilities. Testwork in Spain indicated that recoveries of over 85% can be expected with low acid consumption (12-18 kg/t) and at a coarse crush size the AIM firm said. The high recoveries were achieved very rapidly in less than 30 days of leaching with virtually 100% of the soluble uranium going into solution. "These highly impressive metallurgical testwork results are important as they enhance the economic significance of the Zona 7 deposit and support the board's decision to rapidly incorporate the deposit into the overall development plans of the Salamanca project" the group told investors. Zona 7 lies within 10 kilometres of the approved location of the proposed plant and currently hosts an inferred mineral resource estimate of 23.2 million tonnes averaging 589 ppm (parts per million) U3O8 for 30.1 million pounds of U3O8 (at a 200 ppm U3O8 cut-off grade). The firm noted that the  recently announced infill drill results confirmed the broad thickness and high grade of the shallow deposit. The final infill drill results and an upgraded resource estimate are due to be reported in September. Berkeley shares were unchanged at 19p.
