Germany: Lufthansa pilots to strike again

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Pilots of German carrier Lufthansa have announced a 12-hour strike at airports across the country after wage and pension talks failed last week.

The pilots' union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) said on Monday that its members would not fly any short and medium-haul flights from German airports on Tuesday between 1000GMT and 2159GMT.

The union, which represents more than 5,000 Lufthansa and Germanwings pilots, accused management of rejecting its offer for an "alliance for growth and employment".

VC has been in conflict with Lufthansa since April last year due to a major disagreement over plans to change the current scheme, which presently allows pilots to retire at the age of 59 - six years earlier than the official retirement age.

The union has so far staged 12 strikes leading to the cancellation of thousands of flights.
