(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt's Ministry of Water Resources said it did not receive studies from the consulting companies on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) construction and its potential impact on the Nile's downstream countries after the scheduled deadline on Saturday.
"Egypt is not feeling comfortable about not reaching an agreement between the two consulting companies until now," said Water Resources Minister Hossam Moghazy in a statement.
Moghazy affirmed Egypt's commitment to the agreement made between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia in March. He added: "All the involved parties should cooperate to achieve this agreement and not harm others' interests."
A tripartite meeting between Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia took place in Addis Ababa on 20 August to review the latest developments on the international consultancy agencies' studies on the GERD's construction and its impact on Egypt and Sudan's water resources.
The GERD, of which 60% has been completed, has strained relations between Ethiopia and Egypt since construction began in 2011, with relations reaching their lowest point in 2013.
