D0HA: The new Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) is all set to open its doors in November hosting the fifth Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference as its first event Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) Director of Exhibitions Hamad Al Abdan has said.

“DECC is fully completed. The operator has been appointed and is managing it now” Al Abdan told reporters.

Two months ago QTA appointed ELAN Qatar and Fira Barcelona to manage and operate the country’s new Meetings Incentives Conferences and Events (MICE) hub.

With its spacious exhibition halls and ample parking space the iconic convention centre is seen by many as having huge potential to draw large number of visitors and Al Abdan referred to its strategic location as its strength.

“The positive sign is the new centre is in the middle of shopping malls hotels and apartment hotels with a walking distance of less than 400m which gives strength to this venue” he told the media on the sidelines of the launch of the eighth Heya Arabian Fashion Exhibition on Sunday.

The eighth Heya expected to draw 15000 visitors he said will be one of the first exhibitions to be organised in the new venue but the Civil Defence expo will be the inaugural event.

The fifth Civil Defence expo is scheduled to be held from November 2 to 4 and will have participants representing 1000 agencies and companies from around the world.

Said to be one of the biggest exhibition halls in the world DECC has among its main highlights an exhibition space spanning approximately 29000sqm area which can be used as one hall or divided into five smaller halls. A unique feature of the halls is they are column-free and can accommodate around 3500 delegates each.

Another main aspect of the DECC is a two-storey basement parking which can hold thousands of cars.

DECC is set to become one of the most attractive MICE venues in the Middle East and will significantly contribute to Qatar’s standing as a globally competitive MICE destination Al Abdan said in an earlier interview.

Aiming for a 20 percent increase in the number of visitors in the next five years QTA sees the MICE sector as key to achieving this target he added.
