UAE- Thanks to Instagram they meet after 22 years

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)Even as the debate goes on about how social networking websites make us un-social here is a shining example of how everything has a good and a bad side. A Bahraini national who had lost contact with his cousins - residing in the UAE - 22 years ago was reunited with them thanks to the Instagram account of the Sharjah Police.

Lieutenant Abdul Rahman Abdul Aziz of the Sharjah Police told Khaleej Times that Bahraini national Issa Abdulla 30 contacted them on Instagram and sought their help to find his Emirati cousins with whom they lost contact after losing their phone over 13 years ago.

Abdulla said: "The last time I saw my cousins was when I was 8 years old. We visited our cousins in the UAE briefly and after returning to Bahrain we kept in touch with them through phone. We used to call our relatives on their landlines numbers but after some times their phone numbers changed and we lost touch. Although I tried getting help from some charity organisations but to no avail. Last week while we all were having lunch we started reminiscing about old days and fun times with our cousins. So it just came to my mind to try contacting the Sharjah Police through their Instagram account as well as their website."

Swinging into action the Sharjah Police launched a search contacted many authorities and reviewed systems to identify Abdulla's cousins' family in the UAE. Abdulla said he was pleasantly surprised when the police called him back after four days to inform him that they had found his cousins.

"I got in touch with Lieutenant Abdul Aziz and other police officials who took the responsibility for getting the visas and tickets for me my mother and father.

I did not disclose this news to my family until all arrangements for our going to UAE were made. When I broke the news to my family they found it hard believe until the police gave us my cousin Yousuf Al Khaja's mobile number."

"This was the second time we had lost their phone numbers" said Abdulla's mother. "Last time after we lost their phone number one of our neighbours met my cousins in the UAE and got us their phone number."

"However this time we have been searching for so long for them but were unable to find their whereabouts...but this time it's technology that reunited us" she added.

"Also we could never imagine that the Sharjah Police could do such wonderful thing in no time. I'm really grateful to them." She said she was worried that their children may never meet again and that the family ties would be lost forever.

Saying she had brought photographs of their children when they are young she added: " We are so happy to remember those old beautiful days .

On their parts UAE national Ali Al Khaja and his son Yousuf expressed their gratitude to Sharjah Police for helping them see their cousins again.

Thanking the Sharjah Police Abdulla said: " We will never forget this good deed of the Sharjah Police."
