UAE- DHA begins overall health screening for workers

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has begun its annual health screening and awareness programme for workers.

The initiative is taking place for the fourth consecutive year and will take place across labour accommodations and work-sites in Dubai.

Dr Shamsa Abdulla bin Hammad head of Community Health Services Programme Section in the DHA's Primary Healthcare Sector said that the initiative is a comprehensive health campaign that takes a look into the social psychosocial and medical needs of workers.

"It includes free dental and medical check-ups such as blood pressure blood sugar blood cholesterol and body mass index. Health educators will explain to workers the complications of heat stress and other heat related disorders.

They will be educated about ways to protect themselves from dehydration and harmful effects of the sun. Besides this we will also educate them about diabetes and other non-communicable diseases."

Dr Shamsa said psychologists will also educate workers about the connection between psychological and physical health and ways to have a happy mind and body.

This year the authority is also organising free hair-cuts for labourers as part of the campaign.

Dr Shamsa said: " We work with many volunteers and they recommended that in addition to distribution of free health kits workers would appreciate getting a free hair-cut. We have incorporated their suggestion in this year's campaign." The authority will also distribute free dental kits to the labourers.
