Qatar- Consumers asked to report complaints against food items


(MENAFN- The Peninsula)DOHA: Consumers have been asked to report any complaints against food items imported in to the country.

Such complaints could be made to hotline number 44266666 or with the Public Health Department Supreme Council of Health (SCH). Once a complaint is logged authorities take samples of those products to check at laboratories said a senior official in charge of food inspection.

The official said reacting to reports of some items of a popular food brand that has been banned in India is available in Qatar.

“We will not immediately get information if a product is facing any issues in the manufacturing country as many food items and supplies get imported different parts of different countries” said the official. “Most items have different production methodology for domestic sales and import. Therefore it’s not easy to judge or come to a conclusion. However if we receive any genuine complaint we will immediately test the product” he added.

The food safety authorities in the South Indian state of Kerala on Friday banned some spices of popular brand Nirapara on charge of adulteration.

Manufacture storage sale and distribution of Nirapara brand of chilly turmeric and coriander powder manufactured by KKR Food Products are banned. It is found that the rate of adulteration ranges from 15 to 70 percent after the products were analysed at the state lab in Kerala.

However the products which are popular among many consumers in Qatar are available in the market and the local distributers claim that the products are safe for consumption and compliant with quality standards.

“All items of Nirapara sold here are manufactured to comply with import quality standards. Local authorities randomly check samples of the product at the time of import” said a source attached to the local distributers of Nirapara.
