DOHA: Motorists involved in serious traffic violations will not benefit from the reduction in fines expected to be announced in the amended traffic law the chief of Traffic Department said yesterday.

Brig Mohammed Saad Al Kharji said the amended law which would be enforced within three months will allow motorists to pay 50 percent of fines for some violations. But serious offenders cannot expect this relaxation.

“The amendments will not change the existing fines for serious violations like overtaking from the right occupying the parking reserved for people with special needs speeding above 180 kilometer per hour and overloading for trucks” said Brig Kharji.

The new amendments will be explained once they come into force said Al Kharji Al Sharq reported.

Al Kharji was speaking at a traffic awareness campaign organised on the occasion of Back to School at Qatar Primary Independent School for girls at Madinat Al Khalifa.

Officials also distributed gifts among students on the Back to School day.
