Thousands of Migrants Reach Germany, Austria

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Thousands more exhausted refugees were setting foot in Germany for the second day Sunday after enduring grueling journeys across Hungary and Austria, the German News Agency dpa reported.

Up to 10,000 people were expected to take some 40 trains to Germany on Sunday, the Austrian state railway company OeBB said. More than 13,000 had taken the trip by rail or bus since early Saturday, it said.

Germany authorities have not provided a total tally of arrivals, although police in Munich have said some 7,000 migrants arrived at the southern city's main train station on Saturday.

Once they stepped out of trains in Munich and Frankfurt, the migrants were being sent to refugee centres across the country. Rail operators in Austria and Germany have increased capacity to handle the influx coming from the Austrian city of Nickelsdorf near the border with Hungary, where they caught trains to cities such as Vienna and then onward to Germany.

The Red Cross said 16 migrants who arrived overnight in Nickelsdorf from Hungary have been taken to hospitals, the Austrian news agency APA reported, including seven seriously ill children who were suffering from diarrhea, vomiting or dehydration.
