UN Thanks Qatar for the Success of 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) issued a document under theme "Doha Declaration" on the six official languages of the United Nations.

The document includes "Doha Declaration", adopted at the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention, which was held in Doha,12 -19 April 2015.

The Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Yury Fedotov, expressed thanks to the State of Qatar for its hospitality and dedication to make the 3th UN Crime Congress a success leading the member states to reach the Doha historic Declaration.

At the introduction of the document, Fedotov reviewed in a summary the most important principles and objectives contained in the Doha Declaration, to which the UN member states confirmed their joint commitment, notably the close interdependence between sustainable development, the rule of law and common commitment to preventing and combating crime in all its forms and manifestations.

Fedotov considered the "Doha Declaration" as a significant milestone at a time where the whole world meet to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and formulate the post-2015 development agenda.

He noted that this procedural declaration could help to further strengthening the collective efforts being made in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice, boosting the rule of law and contributing on the achievement of sustainable development.
