Yahoo Japan loses 2.58 million emails due to system glitch

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Yahoo Japan Corp. said that about 2.58 million messages addressed to some 970,000 account holders in its free email service, Yahoo Mail, were lost in late August due to a computer system problem.

Yahoo Japan late Sunday apologized for the inconvenience the incident caused to users. The company said it will set up an investigation team and map out measures to prevent any recurrence.

According to the company, its computer system suffered a glitch around 10:20 a.m. on Aug. 28 (9:20 a.m. GMT). About 2.6 million account holders were unable to have access to their email accounts until around 8 p.m. the same day.

During the period, about 220 million emails reached the service's all accounts totaling some 50 million. The lost messages account for about one percent of the total, company officials said.
