US labor increases 173,000 in August despite slumping job growth

(MENAFN) Although it's been quite rough for US job growth, plus the near eight years slump in unemployment rate, Non-farm workers increased 173,000 last month after an upwardly revised gain of 245,000 in July.

August's gain was the smallest in five months as the factory sector lost the most jobs since July 2013, however, payrolls data for June and July were reviewed to show 44,000 more jobs created than previously reported.

Average hourly pays increased 8 cents, the biggest growth in seven months and the length of the average workweek also extended, all in all, the US economy remains vibrant despite unstable global markets and plunging Chinese growth.

"The payrolls data is certainly good enough to allow for a Fed rate hike in September," said the global head of currency strategy at Deutsche Bank in New York.
