Countering the PKK

(MENAFN- Arab News) This is with reference to the report 'PKK militants security forces clash in Turkey' (Sept. 6). The ongoing unrest in Turkey has become a major source of concern for Muslims around the world. The international community should not support the PKK and its sympathizers in Turkey as these elements want to stoke communal tensions in an otherwise peaceful country.
Ankara should also handle this situation with extreme caution. The PKK might exploit any wrong move made by Turkish forces in the Kurdish regions. The PKK does not represent the Kurds. It is a communist party which aspires to implement a failed Godless ideology on a Muslim nation.
The Turkish authorities should address grievances if any of the Kurdish population so as to deprive the PKK of its support base. Such political or militant outfits usually exploit popular sentiments to promote their selfish interests. Ankara should not provide the PKK with such an opportunity.
The authorities should increase people-to-people contact to remove any existing misconceptions. The situation of the region is too volatile to afford yet another conflict. Tariq Jaleel Dammam
