WAFF U 23: Qatar and Jordan in same group


(MENAFN- The Peninsula)Officials of Qatar Football Association (QFA) and West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) pose for a picture after signing an agreement in Doha yesterday. QFA will host the first edition of the WAFF Under-23 from September 30 to October 14.

Doha: Hosts Qatar and Jordan are placed in the same group along with Palestine and Yemen for the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship which is scheduled to be played here from September 30 to October 14.

The draw of the under-23 championship conducted at Radisson Blu Hotel here yesterday saw the participating teams divided into three different groups. The winner from each group will qualify for the next stage along with the second placed team with the best record from the three groups.

Oman and arch-rivals the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are placed in Group C along with Syria. Meanwhile Iran and Saudi Arabia clubbed in Group B which also comprises Bahrain.

Oman will play their first match against the UAE on October 4 before completing their group engagements on October 7 against Syria. This is the first time the WAFF is hosting the championship for Under-23 teams.
